My Family Friday...

Happy Black Friday! For those of you that are big shoppers, I'm sure this was a busy day for you. However, a big shopper, I am not. The crowds stress me out... and all the madness makes me want to sit down someplace quiet and rock back and forth.

So. I am here.

I wanted to share a few pics of my Thanksgiving Day with you.


My husband's family is all boy. Four brothers...Three of which had 2 sons each... and now we have 2 boys... A family get together at Great Nanny's (my husband's grandmother) is a total hoot. Toys galore (of the kid and big-kid variety) for everyone to play with... it's great.


Our littlest one wasn't feeling so well and was therefore a total pain in the rear-end... but after a nice dose of Motrin he felt much better... and allowed a few people to hold him... for a millisecond.

So Happy Thanksgiving Day to you all. I hope you all had a day as good as mine!

It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year...

I really can't believe it's already holiday season.

The music. The colors. The commercials. The food. The food....

It's madness really.

And I LOVE it!

Keeping it simple...

I love that statement.

So little in life is truly simple... or at least it seems that way, as we tend to make things much more complicated than need be.

Okay. So maybe that's just me. But I'm really good at. Like... I've perfected the art of over-complicating things.

And so, as self-inflicted therapy, I've started simplifying.

I'm starting with my business.

The other day I was looking through my website... like I do every so often to make sure everything's loading properly and what-not... and I looked through my pricing...

&*$@#! ??

Confusing! I created it. And I was overwhelmed. (* cough * are we surprised? No.)

So I've re-vamped. Simplified. Clarified.

One creative fee. (ETA: Okay. So two creative fees. One for most sessions, one for newborns...)

A la carte prints & products.

Five collections to choose from (collections are a variety of prints and products offered together at a discounted price).

Ahhh. That feels so much better.

Models Needed

If you're in the local area (Hampton, VA) and are willing to be my guinea pig for a few hours on Sunday, October 25th in the late afternoon... I'd love to have you!

I need a female (age doesn't really matter) and a girl about 10 or so... mother/daughter combination would be even better!

Time includes hair, make-up and a quick shoot in Yorktown... all total, you're probably looking at 2-3 hours. For your time (and guinea-pig status) I'll give you a few of my favorite images on a CD.

If it's a beautiful sunny day, there's almost always a group of white sailboats out on the harbor. This day, though, they were joined by a few colorful boats...

The pictures never do it justice.

In more business related news... September has purposefully been a slow month. I'm taking a bit of a break. Maybe the calm before the storm?

October is shaping up to be VERY busy. Almost all my Saturdays are already booked up...and Sundays are on their way to filling up as well.

Holiday Specials!

It seems so early to be rolling this out, but the holiday frenzy will soon be upon us! And there is NO TIME like the present to start thinking about family sessions for the holidays!

Between September 15th and November 15th, I'll be offering the following specials:

** Book a Premier or Ultimate session and you'll receive a FREE set of 25 custom 5x7 greeting cards! **
These are top-of-the-line 5x7 FOLDED cards printed on high quality linen or watercolor paper!

As well I will be arranging a few dates during the months of September, October, and November for QUICKIE HOLIDAY SHOOTS. These are designed for my current clients who've already had family portraits taken (and current clients WILL be given priority), but I do want to open them up to a few new clients as well :)

The quickie shoot is just 20 minutes at a pre-set location (to-be-determined). We will focus on group shots of the family... shots that will look fabulous on your greeting cards or as a beautiful 8x10 framed print for grandma. As a part of this shoot you'll receive a set of 25 custom 5x7 FLAT greeting cards (front and back). Each shoot will be $195. I will be booking weekend mornings and evenings in groups of 4. If I fill all four slots for a particular time and location (which will be pre-set by me) I will knock $15 of each family's session fee! So, tell your friends and co-workers!

Ch-Ch-Changes...

You may notice (if you're on my blog page proper....if you're reading this in an aggregator, pop over to my page) that my blog header looks different.

It's been about a year now since I started on this path to starting my own photography business. I have learned so much and have grown as a photographer (and as a person I hope) since that time...

I felt it was time for a little change.

Nothing huge.

Just little.

My logo... is slightly different. That's it.

Whattya think? I feel like it's a little more representative of things as of late.

Give Your Husband a QUICKIE for Father's Day...!!

Okay, get your minds out of the gutter. I mean really... *sheesh* :)

Is your husband really hard to shop for?

Here's an idea! Give them the gift of memories. Anyway you want it :)

** Get you and the kids and the family dog together and we'll snap a quick pic, order it in a 5x7 and I'll have it to you well before Father's Day.

A Quick Update...

Whew. It's been a busy, busy weekend! Two full days of bazaar-table manning, two shoots... and a queasy stomach throughout! I'm tired, but definitely happy! I can't wait to share some of the sneak peeks with you guys, so keep checking back.

Also, this month is almost completely booked up, so PLEASE contact me ASAP if you want to schedule a shoot before it gets hot-hot! :)

Because it's been so busy I haven't had a chance to edit and/or blog too many personal pictures. But here's a quick one. Last weekend we went to the zoo with our friend John and Whitney and it was a blast! Stupidly, I didn't bring my camera, just the point-and-shoot... I totally regret that, but we got a few okay shots :)

The highwire act...totally gave me stress.

Updates

I have not forsaken you...

It was Spring Break this week and Trey's pre-school was out. SO, let's just suffice it to say I was a bit preoccupied all week. *starts to twitch*

It was actually a really good week and I'll try and blog some of that stuff soon, but I've been hinting at this business post ... and hinting... and hinting... and I'm finally able to post it!

Well, here it is...

I have made some BIG, and I mean BIG, improvements to the portrait collections that I offer. Being in business for a few short months has really taught me a lot and given me some insight into what my customers really want... so I went through and re-vamped the bundles.


(oh and i added the cutest little chubby baby to that picture on the right... he's just the most edible thing... truly.)

Moving on...

The gist is the same (as are the cheesy portrait collection names... please forgive my utter lack of creativity in this regard):

* I don't charge a separate session/sitting fee. I've always created my packages this way... I want my customers to know what you're spending UP FRONT. On everything... prints and all. If you choose to spend more on the back end, yippee! But in this day and age we all live inside some kind of budget and if it helps to know up front, awesome.

* I took out the print-size specifications (1-8x10, etc) b/c I really want YOU to dictate exactly what you want to purchase. If you want to spend it ALL on one huge beautiful, amazing canvas, I am ALL for it! Or if you want to buy 20 5x7's... that is up to YOU. You direct the print purchases, not me :)

But I've added some too... :

* Digital Images. Lots of them. Check out the website!

* I've added a 'Simply Baby' newborn package...! Simple. Easy. Perfect.

* I've added an additional session to the 'Watch Me Grow' Package! Now instead of 3 sessions throughout your child's first year, you get 4!

I've organized the 'Investments' portion of the site:
* Now you can see portrait options for 'Familes, Children, & Couples', 'Babies', and 'Seniors'. It makes it MUCHO easier to weed through.
