Meg & Kyle ... Take III

I talk to myself.

Sometimes it's motivational, sometimes I'm berating myself, sometimes I'm having an in-depth debate... sometimes I just have the irrational need to say whatever outloud.

Over the last few nights as I've edited these images... it's been things like, "They are SO photogenic..." or "...I want her skin..." or "... blue eyes rule..." Minor statements of disbelief at how preposterously gorgeous this couple is.

Plus, they are friends...

And this is my 3rd time shooting them (well, HER)... If you're curious, check them out here and here.

It was a lot of fun! Not only did we traipse around the grounds of the gorgeous Williamsburg Inn, we spent some time with a budding photographer who is just learning the ins and outs.

Until next time,
K

Megan & Kyle | Hampton Roads Couples Photography

If you live here in southeast Virginia, you know that the weather has been totally unpredictable lately. Scary and cold, yes. But predictable, not-so-much. And for a natural-light photographer who LOVES location shoots... this is a thorn in my side, to say the least.

However, there are days like today when it all just comes together... the weather, the light... everything tonight was just perfect.

Meet Megan & Kyle.

Kyle is a firefighter on Langley. Megan is working on her master's in education. Kyle just got back from a six-month tour in Afghanistan...and we are so glad he and the rest of the team are back safe and sound. These two will be married in May of next year and are one amazing couple. Totally fierce. Totally.

Our shoot started at the station...

I had these grand plans of using a few of the guys in the shot... but no-such-luck... just as we'd rounded up enough guys... alarm activation! Sirens... trucks out... they were gone.

*STOMPS FEET* This is life with a firefighter. Welcome to my world folks.

And I was so excited too. Kyle, when you go back on the floor... seriously... call me... we'll stage it again.

Anyway, small photographer-tantrum aside, we got some fantastic shots of these two! I dunno, might have something to do with the fact that they're gorgeous!! Just maybe...

Ooo. A little leg. Some bunkers. Sexy. Hotness. I. LOVE. THIS. SHOT. Would it be weird if I had it up in my house?! Yes? Yes. Okay. Darnit.

So after the station, we drove out to Phoebus to catch some more late afternoon/early evening light...

* sigh * I love graffiti.

We didn't spend tons of time out there, just walked around the block a bit, but were able to find some of the most awesome little places!! Like this...

and this...

...the light... oh the light...

And then as we were walking we passed the cutest little Irish Pub. It was a hole-in-the-wall place... and as soon as we saw it, we all stopped and, almost at the same time we all said, "Ooo a little Irish Pub!" Well, of course we went in. The regulars were in there and happily allowed us to snap a few pictures... and requested we bring one by so they could put it on their wall! Will do :)

Then, off to the beach to wrap up the shoot.

It was a whirlwind shoot ... filled with some pleasant small-talk, a few clothing changes, me practically falling out of Kyle's ENORMOUS truck (megan, more power to ya girl... that truck is a beast), and lots of fun! Thanks guys. I couldn't take a bad photo of you two. I can't wait for you to see all of them!

Until next time,

~ K

Ryan & Rachel: Sneak Peek | Hampton Roads Couples Photographer

Rachel is awesome. Awesome. And a winner! She won my free session through the LESC and we shot her portraits last weekend!

We had SO. MUCH. FUN. out on this shoot. Well aside from the fact that I'm apparantly allergic to, uh, nature. I started sneezing and sniffling and my eyes started getting all itchy... stinkin' nature.

And Rachel, my dear, I'm not sure what you're talking about when you say you hate being in front of the camera. You look radiant!

And... now... I'll... shutup.

I just love this picture. I'm not done editing the entire set of images, but so far this is my favorite. We were walking up to this path and the light was shining through the trees so perfectly... so I start yelling... "there! there! see that light! ohmigod. You guys stand RIGHT there!"

*Sigh* I love real smiles. I do. Just don't ask my couples what I do to GET those real smiles. *wink* *wink*

Whatever not-photogenic. I love it.

So you two... I had great fun! Keep an eye on your inbox for your gallery! Should be up soon... :)

Until next time,
~K

Stephanie & Ricky | An Expecting! Sneak Peek | Hampton Roads Portrait Photography

I had so much fun shooting with this couple the other day. They're young, gorgeous, and excited to be first-time parents to their little girl.

As we were talking I learned so much about them... how they met... what they love...what they do... and it really shows in their photos. This is the part of being a photographer that I didn't realize was so rewarding... the meeting new people part... learning about them and getting little glimpses into their lives.

These two happen to be self-proclaimed beach people and the color scheme in their home reflects it. Cool sea-greens and warm sand colors. Incidentally, Ricky BUILT the house... I was, like, you mean built it-built it? Yes. Everything except a few jobs he contracted out, but not because he COULDN'T do them, but because he didn't FEEL like it. This, ladies is a Jack-of-all-trades, and he is SO taken. :) And the decorations in the house were spot-on. No too much, perfect matching tones and colors. You walk in and instantly feel at home and comfortable. They've really done a great job with their house. That little girl is going to have a warm and loving place to call home when she arrives.

It was a gorgeous day, their windows were open, a breeze was blowing and it was just all-around perfect.

We started out at home for a few shots in their little girl's room...

This one took my breath away when I saw it. It. Is. So. Perfect! There is so much written in the expressions on their faces and their body language. When I chatter on about 'a moment captured' THIS is what I'm talking about.

What's a maternity shoot without a belly pic? And let's all talk about how gorgeous Stephanie looks... she's only about a month away from her due date and, uhm, does anyone else see any stretch marks?! No. I did NOT photoshop them out...this is prime genetics at work here. Let's just press on lest we incite violence among other females...

After hanging around their house, we made our way over to the park for a few outdoor shots.

They are so cute together it hurts. Aches. Pains. I love it.

Stephanie, I'm still working on the rest of the edits, I should be done soon, but I wanted you to have something to look at! I had a great time with you guys... check your email in a few days!!!

Until next time,

~ K
